You can put juice in a SodaStream MIX, following its instructions. You should not put juice into a water-only SodaStream such as Classic, TERRA, E-TERRA, ART, DUO or ENSO while carbonating. With those machines, fizz plain water first and add the juice afterwards.¶
The model name matters more than the brand name here. SodaStream's current model-specific guidance explains the MIX exception. Its Classic product instructions explicitly say to carbonate water before adding drink mix.¶
So check the machine before pouring anything into the bottle. A video showing someone fizzing orange juice may show a different model from yours.¶
Check your model before adding juice
#| Your machine | During carbonation | For a juice drink |
|---|---|---|
| Classic, TERRA, E-TERRA, ART, DUO or ENSO | Plain water | Carbonate water, then mix with juice separately |
| SodaStream MIX | Drinks allowed by the MIX instructions | Use the correct bottle, carbonation procedure and staged pressure release |
| Model not listed, or model name unclear | Check its exact local manual first | Do not assume another model's instructions apply |
Read the product name on the machine or its documentation. A compatible bottle alone does not tell you what the machine can carbonate. The MIX manual even explains that some bottles carrying a water-only icon can be compatible with MIX. Check the machine and bottle together.¶
This guide covers the models named above, rather than every SodaStream sold in every country. Use your local instructions for another model or variant.¶
Making a juice mocktail with a water-only machine
#You can still make a fizzy juice drink. Keep the carbonation step separate from the flavour step.¶
- Fill the compatible carbonating bottle with cold plain water to its marked fill line.
- Carbonate it using your model's instructions, then remove the bottle as directed.
- Put the juice in a drinking glass or serving jug and add the freshly carbonated water. Adjust the flavour in the glass.
The first two steps follow the Classic instructions. Mixing in a separate serving glass is a practical way to keep juice out of the machine; it is not permission to put that finished drink back into a water-only carbonator.¶
For example, if you want an apple-juice spritz, keep the apple juice beside the machine while you fizz water. Combine them afterwards. You do not need a different appliance simply to mix juice with sparkling water.¶
SodaStream's water-maker care guidance recommends chilled water and adding flavours after carbonation. Follow that order even when you are making several drinks.¶
With MIX, slow pressure release is part of the process
#MIX is designed for non-water drinks. SodaStream describes a carbonation system that handles sugars, pulped juices and re-carbonation of drinks that have lost their fizz. That is a MIX feature, not a setting you can enable on a water-only model.¶
Its operating instructions use a release dial to manage pressure and foam:¶
- Start with a cold drink at the bottle's fill line and fit the bottle as directed.
- Lock the dial and follow the MIX carbonation sequence.
- Move to release Stage I and let the foam settle.
- Continue to Stage II and let the foam settle again.
- Unlock and remove the bottle only after completing the release procedure.
Keep the manual beside you for the exact setup and carbonation details. Do not copy the number of presses from a Classic or TERRA tutorial.¶
If foam rises during release, SodaStream's overflow instructions say to control it with the dial and lock it again if it overflows. Follow those instructions rather than pulling the bottle out to stop a spill. The manual warns against forcing out a bottle while it is still pressurised.¶
Juice, pulp and flat drinks are different questions
#The permission to carbonate juice depends on the machine. Whether a particular drink needs extra care depends on its instructions too.¶
MIX's manufacturer description includes pulped juices. That does not establish that every thick smoothie, fruit puree or homemade mixture is suitable. If the guidance for your exact drink is unclear, ask support before trying it.¶
Re-fizzing also depends on the model. SodaStream's re-carbonation guidance permits re-fizzing plain water in its water makers, but separates that from re-carbonating a flavoured drink in MIX. A small splash of juice does not turn a mixed drink back into plain water.¶
If you are looking for flavour ideas, our Japanese mocktail guide is a separate starting point. A recipe's ingredient list does not override the instructions for your carbonation machine.¶
Cleaning matters after a juice drink
#For MIX, SodaStream recommends rinsing the carbonation unit after non-water drinks. Its cleaning guide identifies removable washable parts, including the nozzle, overflow tank and drip tray. It also says not to immerse the whole machine or put it in a dishwasher.¶
Check the bottle's own dishwasher marking separately. Washable machine parts do not make every bottle dishwasher-safe. The manufacturer also says to replace expired carbonating bottles and avoid damaged ones.¶
If you have already put juice into a water-only machine, stop using it for that drink and contact the manufacturer's support for your model. Do not improvise a disassembly or pressure-release fix from someone else's machine.¶
Do you actually need a different soda maker?
#If you only want juice mixed with sparkling water, your water-only machine can provide the water part. Make the drink afterwards in a glass.¶
If you specifically want to carbonate juice itself or re-fizz a finished mocktail, check a model expressly designed for non-water drinks. Compare that capability and the cleaning routine before buying, rather than assuming every machine from the same brand works alike.¶
Our soda maker versus bottled sparkling water guide covers the broader purchase decision. Here, the useful first step is simpler: identify your exact model, then choose the drink-making method it supports.¶
